This piece is called "deodorized central mass satellites" I think why he called it "satellite" because the pieces are hung from the ceiling and floating and that's just my silly thoughts.
The pieces are made by a lot of stuffed dolls that are sewed together over wood and wire frames. He uses stuffed dolls for metaphor and there also a lot of ironies on this installment piece.
It may look cute and colorful because of the stuffed dolls and all the colors. This installation is actually have a really deep meaning. Kelley is bringing the audience to fantasize. He's not only seizing cultures, but it is about the American cultures. The cultures which he thought he understood but the culture itself barely understood it.
The use layers represents the America's consumer. The multiple collection and varieties of colors is for luxury and life styles meanwhile, the irony of it all is that he used the cheapest stuff and lowest quality to create such a meaning for this installment.
How does it make me think about the world in a new way?
What I think about the world is what the world see is what they get when it's not really IT!
For example, when my eyes see this piece it's just layers of stuffed dolls and pretty colors when it's not really it. It's something that has a really deep meaning about a cultures but only a few people want to analyze it.
And it applies the same thing to people. They need to stop judging by how it looks like or how it's made, the world need to start seeing WHY it's made.

Homework Assignment #5 DADA Artwork
The mind that can't stop thinking.
It's about the mind that can't stop thinking. The idea is to stop thinking. I have the two umbrellas on top of the head to avoid all the things that people talk about me and put it all behind me. The bubble chat represents the words. The newspaper background represents the people. The cigarettes and the coffee cups represents relax, it's just what I'd do to stop thinking for a moment and relax by drinking my hot latte while smoking a cigarette.

1. Dada is an art movement to criticize or make fun of society through art which began in the first World War. It's a way to say that the world that we live in is dangerous and doesn't make sense anymore.Marcel Duchamp and his Readymade created by using the everyday and ordinary object "based on a reaction if visual indifference, with at the same time a total absence of good or bad taste..." he said. The snow shovel that he hung from his ceiling is called "In Advance of A Broken Arm" He picked the shovel because he was so unfamiliar with it. Moved from France to the United State, he had never seen a shovel before in his life. This piece refers to the shovel's function to remove the the snow from the ground, with the idea or an assumption, if the snow doesn't get remove from the ground, people might fall down and break an arm, that's why he called this "In Advance of a Broken Arm".
2. The painting by Jacob Lawrence from the "Migration" series describes about the biggest migration in the US. The painting is called "There Were Riots", it seems to me that they were fighting. At that time there were still a lot of racism going on and also labor. Looks like the white men were trying to harm the black people. This painting shows how much struggle they have to go through during migration period.
All the paintings that Lawrence did including the "Migration" series were influenced by Goya, Orozco, Harlem Renaissance and African American history.

Online Assignment #3 Rembrandt
1.  Describe the portrait of the fur merchant. Why is he "the business man's hero"?
The man in the portrait is a man who owned fur business, Nicolaes Ruts. In the painting, Ruts is branding himself by wearing the fur. The very small details in the portrait is what telling the audience about what's this painting all about. The glance in Ruts' expression on his face, shows of a slightly impatient intelligence. The shadow on the side of his head makes him look thoughtful. The pink eye lids describes that Ruts doesn't get enough sleep for the good of his investors which says a lot about how great Nicolaes was as a business man and that makes him the business man's hero.
2. What is the mood of the portrait of the 83 year old woman?
I think the mood in portrait of the 83 year old woman is sad. Her glance shows some kind of disappointments about something in her life that she wish she could change and her frown eye brows show that she is a little upset. She knows that she doesn't have much time anymore here on earth.
3. What is Rembrandt communicating in his painting of Sampson and Delilah?
What makes Rembrandt is different from any other artists, is that he looks beyond the pose and body gestures. When everyone else did Samson naked drunk man because naked can represent vulnerability, Rembrandt dresses him and make him look... even more vulnerable. The way he leans his body against his lover shows that he's very much in love with her that he trusted her with his fate but she betrayed him.

Homework Assignment #4 Metropolitan Museum Report#2
 1. Renaissance
1. RenaissanceVenus and Cupid by Lorenzo Lotto
I personally found this painting really interesting to look at. Venus is relaxing and playing with the cupid which supposed to be her son. The expressions show happiness and I love how the cupid looks like he's having a lot more fun.
This painting was purposely done for a couple in either Bergamo or Venice around 1520s to celebrate a wedding. As we can see that Venus is having some kind of a veil over her hear and a crown. The shell above her head and the rose petal on her thigh represent her attitudes and the myrtle wreath she is giving to the cupid was worn by her. The symbol here is relating to Goddess and marriage.
2. Baroque.
The Lamentation by Scipione Pulzone from Italy 1593
I find the painting from this period is so much more dramatic. The face expression shows a lot of emotion and also the body gesture force the audience to feel the same.
The artist purposely painted this for the chapel of the Passion of Christ in Rome, Italy. The style was made to compliment the interior of the church. The details like tears, the pallor of Christ's body and the crown symbolized for contemplation.

Because of their success in commerce, the Medici family became the most important, powerful and the wealthiest family in Europe. Through trading and banking, their patronage influenced many artist, sculptors, architectures to paint, sculpt or build something unbelievably beautiful art pieces and get paid for it. During the Renaissance period, a lot of art pieces were created in Florence and most were requested by the Medici family. Renaissance means rebirth and this family has brought back what has been lost or forgotten like when they requested Donatello to make them a free standing sculpture.
2. Why was Donatello's David so revolutionary?
Donatello's David was a free standing sculpture that was requested by the Medici family. It was so revolutionary in 15th century because Donatello was the first person who ever made a free standing sculpture after the Roman. Besides that, the sculpture was naked and created sensation because to the people during the early Renaissance period, it was something brand new.
3. Describe the sculpture very detail.
David was a naked bronze sculpture wears only boots and a shepherd's hat and holding a sword. He stands on a Goliath's head to describe his victory against his enemy. David's body is small and his muscles are barely there because he is supposed to be a young boy who defeated a monster. At the same time, the sculpture is also looking like a girl from different a different angle and also from the body language The pubescent feminine breast makes the statue looking like a female statue if we look at it from the side and also by the way it stands.

Homework Assignment #2 Greek and Egypt
When we think of Greek and Roman art, we think of sculpture and architecture and the same thing goes to the Egyptian arts. The difference between them is that the Greek and Roman sculptures show details such as expression on the faces, various organs, and muscle. The Egyptian arts are more likely flat and show no expressions. Also, the Egyptian arts are more religious, the Greek's are more into philosophy.

Image above is a sculpture of  Hatshepsut, one of the  female pharaoh in the history of ancient Egypt. She was not the only female pharaoh but she was the most important woman to rule the throne of Egypt. As we can see, the Egyptian sculpture is more symmetry, left and right side are the same and does not have expression on the face. This sculpture does not show many detail and is not life alike. It does not show the life movement like the Greek does.
Homework Assignment #1 Metropolitan Museum Report #1
1. Body Mask (Det)
The Asmat people of Southwest New Guinea called it Body Mask or Det. It was made in mid-20th Century from wood, fiber, leaves and paint. The size of the piece is the of human's height, about 157 cm. The masks are represented the ancestor images in animated way. The festival is called Mask Feast and almost all the people who lived in Asmat region celebrate the feast because it is like their religion and the mask that they made is their art. I find this really interesting, knowing that the the purpose of the feast is to invite the spirit of the dead to the world of living for a feast and celebration and expect the dead to leave the living community by persuasion or force. And until today, they still do the ceremony.
